"The world today doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?” – Pablo Picasso

The above quote is amusing and true.  I could say the same thing.  I leave it up the viewer to decide what makes sense in my paintings according to their world view.  I like to create an atmosphere through my paintings in which the viewer can determine the origin and destination.

This painting Passage appears to have layers leading to a destination of energy and happiness in this nonsensical world.  The yellow produces joy and flows through like a geyser, saturating the calmness of the other colors, bringing the sense back into the painting.

Create your passage by designing your happiness to flow through the parts of your life that make no sense.

Twilight

“I do an awful lot of thinking and dreaming about things in the past and the future - the timelessness of the rocks and the hills - all the people who have existed there. I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Colors and words hide the earth’s translucence.  I love to create paintings and watch them unfold bringing undiscovered life to this sometimes bleak world.  As the colors blend into each other, a new energy forms!

This painting is called ‘Twilight’ as it combines the colors blue and red creating shades of purple, a mixture of meditation and mystery.  It expands the combination of warmth and coolness to create the feeling of winter being cold and damp outside in the snow but warm inside next to a fireplace.  Use the energy that you feel from the colors in this painting during the winter season.  Happy Holidays!

Follow the Path

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson   

This painting is named “Bridge” for the simple reason that there is a dominant white path way through the middle of the piece. In thinking about pathways, in life and art we sometimes find ourselves at a crossroad between decisions. Some decisions easily made and others require more thought and energy. Always finding the right path is a challenge. In art, following your instincts is a good path to creating art from your soul. Decisions on colors and methods easily fall into place as you begin to trust your soul’s intentions. My method of painting is to practice creating without judgment of my own work. It has been a journey of progression that is constantly evolving. My artwork is the result of the evolution of learning to trust my creative instincts.

The Color Blue

“We have two types of responses to color and one is biological.” – Leslie   Harrington 
     

Blue is an overwhelming "favorite color." Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed. The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and has been scientifically proven to cause the body to produce chemicals that calm, lower heart rate and blood pressure. People are more productive in blue rooms because it is ideal for concentration.  However, not all blues are serene and sedate.

Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic -- an engaging color that expresses exhilaration.

Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes wisdom and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought and profound insights. Blue happens to be a hue I love to work with perhaps as a result of its wonderful qualities. My affinity for blue has always been part of my journey as an artist.

We live in a world of infinite possibilities. Art is one medium that reveals the concept of possibility. The purpose of my paintings is to provoke thought in the viewer. By conveying creative energy onto canvas, the essence of my creative thoughts manifests and transfers to the imagination of the viewer. My paintings are like a net that captures the fish of creativity, then they are released on a canvas to be viewed by the world's eye.
