Twilight

“I do an awful lot of thinking and dreaming about things in the past and the future - the timelessness of the rocks and the hills - all the people who have existed there. I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show.” – Andrew Wyeth

Colors and words hide the earth’s translucence.  I love to create paintings and watch them unfold bringing undiscovered life to this sometimes bleak world.  As the colors blend into each other, a new energy forms!

This painting is called ‘Twilight’ as it combines the colors blue and red creating shades of purple, a mixture of meditation and mystery.  It expands the combination of warmth and coolness to create the feeling of winter being cold and damp outside in the snow but warm inside next to a fireplace.  Use the energy that you feel from the colors in this painting during the winter season.  Happy Holidays!

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.” – Crowfoot

As the time changes back, autumn surrounds us.  The nights are longer and darker, and the earth is preparing to hide for the winter.  Flowers vanish, it’s time to hibernate.  I love to inhale the golden hues that violate the atmosphere. Bronze and cinnamon shades spread across the trees as the maple sun inches into the horizon.  What a perfect recipe for a painting!  The colors bring warmth to my soul.  Something magical happens when autumn visits, it brings inspiration and tranquility.  Reach into your soul and find your inspiration this season!

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." - Plato

As a musician gives birth to a song, so does a fine artist to a painting. A paint brush is the breath of life to a canvas, cultivating an imagination and bringing all the elements together in unity. Just as a song takes form in melody and rhythm, the vibration of colors on a canvas begin to take form and blossom into an array of emotions. One can interpret each stroke of color and placement of shapes into their own experiences, bringing a fresh perspective to another eye.

Follow the Path

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

This painting is named “Bridge” for the simple reason that there is a dominant white path way through the middle of the piece. In thinking about pathways, in life and art we sometimes find ourselves at a crossroad between decisions. Some decisions easily made and others require more thought and energy. Always finding the right path is a challenge. In art, following your instincts is a good path to creating art from your soul. Decisions on colors and methods easily fall into place as you begin to trust your soul’s intentions. My method of painting is to practice creating without judgment of my own work. It has been a journey of progression that is constantly evolving. My artwork is the result of the evolution of learning to trust my creative instincts.

Find your path and trust it.

Simplicity

“Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.” – John Meada

Making the decision to simplify our lives is the first cornerstone to actually starting the process. It is definitely a process and not something that we expect to complete as a task in one day. Creating a complicated, even stressful life took probably years to build.  But there is hope. If simplicity is what you desire that is half the battle. It is important to note that in a frenetic state of mind our concentration suffers. We are running around making mistakes, wasting energy and not really thinking clearly. Slowing down your thoughts and actions or simplifying is actually more productive because you will regain composure and be able to prioritize what needs to be done first. When we take time to breathe it replenishes our thoughts, reduces stress, and we see the big picture more clearly. As a result we get more accomplished in less time. If you make the decision to simplify, and commit to it, incredible things will happen.

The arrival of Spring

“Spring work is going on with joyful enthusiasm.”
-John Muir
Springtime is here once again, the time for renewal and re-growth. This painting has a botanical quality to it that is reminiscent of the re-growth of spring flowers. Is it time to re-grow or renew your life? Sometimes we think our lives happen to us. This may not be the case. Our life is a series of conscious choices every moment of every day. What we are and our life situation is a direct result of those choices. Reinventing our lives comes when we are able to make the choices that will bring us toward the focus of our desires, day by day, moment by moment. Let the glory of spring in nature and its spiritual meaning be your inspiration for creating new choices or habits in your daily life. The possibilities are endless of what you can do when you can create change by your own choices.

The Color Blue

“We have two types of responses to color and one is biological.” – Leslie   Harrington

Blue is an overwhelming "favorite color." Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed. The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and has been scientifically proven to cause the body to produce chemicals that calm, lower heart rate and blood pressure. People are more productive in blue rooms because it is ideal for concentration.  However, not all blues are serene and sedate.
Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic -- an engaging color that expresses exhilaration.
Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes wisdom and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought and profound insights. Blue happens to be a hue I love to work with perhaps as a result of its wonderful qualities. My affinity for blue has always been part of my journey as an artist.

“If you see a tree as blue, then make it blue.”—Paul Gauguin

Experimentation

“There is no such thing as a failed experiment; only experiments with unexpected outcomes.” – Buckminster Fuller

Experimentation and art go together like coffee and steamed milk. However creating things as an artist means you sometimes have to break free of your old patterns and do some things differently such as experimenting with changing materials, styles or mediums. Painting can be a grand adventure into the unknown and as an artist I love to explore that realm. Never be afraid to try a new angle or method when creating, it may lead you to your true artistic self. Embrace the potential of each fresh, blank canvas.

Experiment to find what is waiting to be discovered. - It is always amazing!
